Women targeting the executive ranks in a company have a different set of career challenges than many others. The most important challenge is a mindset shift from "I have to be the best at what I do," to "I have to be an awesome and authentic leader capable of business strategy insight, and I have to know how to get the best out of the people who work for me."

While this mental mindshift is something many men are mentored into, women often don't get this advice so specifically, and many times we resist it when they hear it. Why do we resist this advice? Because we've succeeded so far by being the best at what we do and swallowing our frustration when we're awarded a number 2 slot.

The point is that many women derive their security from the fact that they do such a terrific job producing such terrific results. And while this is a key step in the process of getting noticed for senior leadership, it won't get you invited into the executive suite.

So how do you get your head around this new mindset as you rise through the ranks? Read this article for some tips.
