Think of your Project Definition as the foundations of your project. As with a building, it doesn’t matter how robust the framework is nor how well you build the structure. If your foundations are not right, the building will fail.

So, this is arguably the most important stage of your project. Yet so many new and inexperienced Project Managers rush through it, so they can start planning and then plan quickly, to give themselves as much time as possible for implementation.

This is a big mistake. So, it’s a good thing that you are taking the time to learn about project definition.

Before we get started, it’s worth noting that a lot of the resources I’ll point you towards are already gathered together in one place: the Project Definition course at the Free Academy of Project Management, at OnlinePMCourses.com . Where I signpost content that is in that course, I’ll indicate it with the notation [FAPM].
